When I purchased my first Instant Pot back in December 2017, even though I was deep in the Facebook groups, accessories were not something I was thinking about. At the time that was for a 3 quart Mini. With the addition of the Duo Evo Plus, the accessories are slightly different, especially when it comes to the inner cooking pot!
To help home chefs find their way through the accessory options, here is a list of the top things to consider buying to expand your pressure cooking options. For each item, how and why you might want to purchase is included.
And one more note: this post contains affiliate links. This means I may receive a small commission if you buy through my link. You won’t pay any more if you use this link.
Make sure you know which Instant Pot size you have as not all accessories are interchangeable. Accessories sized for the 8 quart model won’t likely fit into the smaller 6 quart model. And the inner liner of the Evo Plus is completely different and specific to this model.
Accessories may be something new to you if you were previously used a slow cooker. With a slow cooker, you simply tossed all the ingredients into the crock and turned it on. Electric pressure cooking can be the same for many recipes, but accessories also open up a whole new set of dish possibilities.
Accessories are part of the fun and a way to expand the different dishes you can cook in your Instant Pot Duo Evo Plus.
Accessories that come with the Instant Pot Duo Evo Plus
The Instant Pot Duo Evo Plus comes with:
- 2 sealing rings (one clear and one red),
- a steam rack with handles (sometimes referred to as a trivet)
- instruction booklet
- small recipe book
Most of the previous Instant Pot models included only 1 sealing ring so this is a nice upgrade. It’s nice to have multiple sealing rings so you can dedicate one to savory and one to sweet cooking.
The instruction booklet will help you learn how to use your new electric pressure cooker along with the small recipe book.
Instant Pot Duo Evo Plus Accessories Checklist
Once you decide you want to stock up on accessories, you might not know what you buy or what will fit safely in your Instant Pot. Items can be only so wide or tall in order to fit safely (or at all) in the inner pot.
Tip: Accessories make great gifts, especially for someone that just purchased their first Instant Pot. While this list is specific for the mini models, you can use this as inspiration for the larger models when you go shopping!
Stainless Steel Inner Cooking Pot
Extra inner cooking pots are a must-have accessory. If you are planning to cook multiple dishes back to back, having clean liners ready to go will save you time.
Batch cooking for meal prep is a great time saver in the long run. Instead of having to stop and wash the cooking pot, keep an extra on hand so you can set up the next dish while the first one cooks.
In addition to having handles to make it easier to lift, this inner cooking pot can also be used on the stovetop, unlike the original non-handled liner.
Tempered Glass Lid
The Instant Pot Glass Lid keeps splatters down while searing. This lid can also be used for making yogurt, keeping your dish warm while serving, and well as slow cooking.
If you’re going to serve your prepared dish directly out of your Instant Pot using the “staying warm” feature, consider picking up a glass lid so you don’t have to keep lifing the full pressure lid.
Instant Pot Sealing Rings
Extra Instant Pot Sealing Rings are at the top of your must-have Instant Pot Duo Evo Plus accessories list. While this Instant Pot comes with 2 sealing rings, having an extra ring or two on hand can be useful.
Depending on the dishes you pressure cook, you’ll notice the silicone ring becomes infused with onion and garlic. Or whatever other flavors you’re cooking
Having extra sealing rings will save yourself from weird tasting results. Even with the tricks to get the smell mostly out of the rings, it always seems to linger a bit. Let’s face it, no one really wants an onion-flavored cheesecake!
Aluminum Cheesecake Push Pan
Cheesecake is probably the most talked-about dessert made in an Instant Pot. If you don’t want to miss out, you’ll need either Fat Daddio round push pan or spring-form pan.
Even if you don’t like cheesecake, you can use this pan for lasagna, another top mentioned dish or to steady the bottom of a meatloaf.
Below is the pan size that fits the 6 and 8 quart models. One thing to note is most cheesecake recipes are written for a 7 inch pan. Double check the recipe you’re planning to use for the recommended pan size. If you use a larger or smaller pan, you may need to adjust the cooking time. You can use the 7 inch pan in either 6 or 8 quart Instant Pots.
The 6 inch pan is also included below as some recipes might mentioned this size. It’s the one that can be used in a 3 quart model, which is not current available as a Duo Evo Plus option.
Silicone Egg Bite Molds
Recreating Starbucks Egg Bites are an interesting Instant Pot meal to cook. You may also see them referred to as sous vide eggs. You blend eggs, cream (or milk), cottage cheese, grated cheese, and a few additional mix-ins to steam this breakfast or snack dish in silicone egg bite molds or silicone muffin cups.
The ULEE egg bite mold has a silicone top so you don’t have to cover your mold with aluminum foil, especially if you’re planning to cook two molds at one time.
If you decide to buy a different egg bite mold, double check the lid material as many are made of plastic. Don’t use a plastic lid for cooking in an Instant Pot.
These molds can be to cook other bite-sized dishes. Search for recipes to make mini meatloaf bites, cheesecake bites, and pancake bites. Don’t worry about this becoming a single-use accessory unless you’re already an egg bite fan, which is a great usage.
Joie Silicone Devil Oven and Toaster Rack Puller
Aside from being adorable, the silicone puller is fun to use with your Duo Evo Plus. It makes a nice stocking stuffer gift and can be put to work with your Instant Pot creations.
While this is the first Instant Pot where you can release the pressure without worrying too much about the escaping steam, you can use it to help you lift hot dishes out of the liner.
Instead of folding an aluminum sling for a pot-in-pot dish, you can also use this puller to lift out pans by their handle.
Or try trying butcher string around a tray of egg bites. Just use a spatular under the mold as soon as it’s high enough to keep it stable and balanced.
Steamer Basket (stainless steel)
Streamer baskets are great for steaming vegetables and eggs. You can also use it to pressure cook chicken wings and other meat. A steamer basket keeps the food above the cooking water and makes it easier to lift the entire finished food.
A stainless steel basket can be easier to clean than a mesh basket, especially if you’re cooking meat.
What about using glass dishes in your Instant Pot?
You may have seen a lot of chatter in Instant Pot Facebook groups about using glass and Pyrex pot-in-pot pressure cooking.
The guidance is anything that’s considered oven safe is ok to use an Instant Pot.
Except for glass.
Both Corelle (the company that makes Corningware and Pyrex) and Instant Pot recommend against using glass in an Instant Pot.
While glass dishes can be made as oven-safe AND many people will comment they haven’t had issues with cooking in glass, it can shatter. Tiny fissures crack using the pressure and quickly rising temperature. Glass canning jars could work but sometimes they break too because of tiny cracks you can’t see.
Don’t put your favorite family heirloom glass dish in a pressure cooker because it would crack even if it’s still considered oven safe.
And for that matter, as much as you prefer cooking in glass, it’s not really worth the risk in pressure cooking. You risk having to throw out both your favorite glass dish as well as the food if the dish shatters.
